A few weeks ago, Google announced that Windows users will be able to use the Nearby Share function with any Android smartphone in the future. This option initially started in selected countries – now it is also available in Germany.

This is evident from various media and user reports. Google’s Nearby Share allows Android files to be shared on Windows PC in just a few steps. However, this function was previously only available to a limited extent. Now that has changed and the Nearby Share feature is available almost worldwide.

Nearby Share: Send data from Android phone to Windows PC

while in the German language documentation can still be read that the function is not available in Germany, the English-language page has already been adjusted. There it says:

“Nearby Share Beta for Windows PCs is available in the US and most countries worldwide. Support is not currently available for the following countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria.” These exceptions will remain because Google is not allowed to do business in these countries due to US trade restrictions.

The function is still marked as beta and does not yet work with Windows PCs with ARM processors. Otherwise, you can try the beta with both Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs. Android 6.0 or higher must be running on the smartphone. In order to be able to exchange files between two devices, they must support Bluetooth and WLAN. Also, they must be connected to the same network and not more than 5 meters apart. We have added the system requirements according to Google:
