The company of Brazilian origin Nella Airlines reported that, by not being able to reach agreements to pay Aeromar’s debts, the company was unable to carry out the signing of the shareholding contract to acquire it.

Mauricio Souza, president of the company, commented that for several months he was in negotiations with Aeromar to be a shareholder of said operator.

“By not being able to reach agreements on the deadlines for the payment of the company’s debts, starting with the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), Nella was unable to carry out the signing of the shareholding contract in Aeromar” , detailed in a message spread on social networks.

He commented that he regrets the closure of the operations of the regional airline and expresses his solidarity with the more than 700 employees and their families.

A few weeks ago, the Aviation Pilots Union Association (ASPA) had reported that the Brazilian company had submitted a formal letter of intent to purchase the Mexican airline.

Even, Aeromar boasted on its website and in its social networks a new identity with Nella that suggested an alliance or sale of the airline, but yesterday after confirming its cessation of operations, I withdraw said references.

Sandra Beltrán, an analyst at Moody’s Investors Service, considered that the cessation of operations of Aeromar will have a minor impact on the country’s air sector, given its modest presence.

“According to the Ministry of Tourism, in 2022 Aeromar transported only 0.6 percent of the total passengers on domestic flights operated by Mexican airlines, well below the 26.5 percent that Aeroméxico transported,” he said.

The Aeromar workers prepare to strike this Thursday in Terminal 2 of the AICM.
