The universe of Stranger Things is getting bigger. Netflix has just ordered a new animated series based on the hit sci-fi franchise created by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer.

As yet untitled, the program has been described by its two creators as being inspired by the “Saturday morning cartoons” they grew up with. The series is also being developed by Eric Robles and Flying Bark Productions.

“We’ve always dreamed of a ‘Stranger Things’ in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons we loved growing up, and seeing that dream come true has been absolutely thrilling,” Matt and Ross Duffer said in a relayed statement. by Variety.

True worldwide success, Stranger Things has been one of Netflix’s most popular series since it aired in 2016. In February 2022, it was renewed for a fifth and final season whose release date has yet to be announced. Filming is due to begin in May.

In addition to this animated series project, Netflix also intends to decline its series on stage with a prequel in the form of a play, entitled The First Shadow, which will be played in London at the end of 2023.

The play, which was co-written by the Duffer brothers, will be directed by Stephen Daldry, the director of Billy Elliot et The Hours. Characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Henry Creel will appear in the play.
