Mimicat’s performance veil lifted… What are the odds at Eurovision?
Márcia Guimaro Rodrigues | 3 hours ago
After the release of the ‘previews’ of the tests, it is common for the countries’ positions in the bookmakers to change, whether for better or worse. It happened, for example, in 2021, when The Black Mamba represented Portugal with ‘Love Is On My Side’ and jumped from 27th place (in a total of 39 countries) to 17th, after rehearsals. In the final of the festival, they managed to reach the 12th position.
In the case of Mimicat, little has changed. According to the EurovisionWorld website, which aggregates the main bookmakers, ‘Ai Coração’ has fluctuated between 26th and 27th position since all 37 songs in the contest were released and has remained there. That is, if the bets were votes, Portuguese music would be in limbo with regard to a passage to the final of the festival, since there is only room for 26 countries.

Who will win Eurovision? There’s already a favorite on Spotify…
Miguel Dias | 3 hours ago
It is with the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 scheduled for May 13 that bets begin among fans of this music festival, with the Portuguese placing their hopes on the theme ‘Ai Coração’ performed by Mimicat. If you want to know what are the impressions collected about the songs among Eurovision fans, Spotify has revealed a ‘ranking’ that lets you know exactly which are the favorite themes.
The song that is in first place both in the global ‘ranking’ and in Portugal between March and April is ‘Tattoo’ by Loreen, the song chosen by Sweden to enter the competition. Meanwhile, Mimicat’s ‘Ai Coração’ is in the second position of the ‘ranking’ in Portugal but, unfortunately, it is in the 21st place of the global ‘ranking’. Fortunately, this is a good sign that Mimicat will qualify for the final.

Mimicat. The “child’s dream” and the “anxiety” of “dealing with uncertainty”
Márcia Guimaro Rodrigues | 3 hours ago
Mimicat, is the alter ego of Marisa Isabel Lopes Mena, 38 years old, who edited her first album at the age of nine. In 2014, the first album under the name Mimicat appears, ‘For You’, with references such as Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles or Jill Scott. According to RTP, she spent the next two years presenting the album “on the biggest stages in the country and made her international debut with concerts in Brazil”.
In 2017, he recorded the album ‘Back in Town’ and, two years later, in 2019, the first song in Portuguese, ‘Até ao fim’, “a tribute to 50 years of love for his parents”. After becoming a mother, she returned to the world of music in 2021 and, last year, presented the single ‘Mundo ao Contrario’.
Participation in the Festival da Canção is the realization of “a childhood dream”, he told the News by the Minute. ‘Ai Coração’ is “a dramatic comedy”, which talks about “the anxiety of not knowing how to deal with the uncertainty of whether to be reciprocated or not”.
