May really is mother’s month and Netflix made a point of reinforcing this in the news that is on the way to streaming. Motherhood is a central point in several of the films and series on the list of releases in May, showing how rich the theme is and capable of bringing such different approaches. From action to period romance, there will be no shortage of options for you to watch something with your mom.

And the big highlight is nothing less than Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The miniseries is a spin-off of one of Netflix’s most successful productions and arrives at the beginning of the month to tell the story of the family matriarch in her youth.

Thus, after being played by Golda Rosheuvel in the main series, Queen Charlotte will now be lived by India Amarteifio (Sex Education) to show the beginning of her relationship with King George and how this romance will transform high society. A soap opera of those that we love.

Still within the theme, we have two mothers who show that motherhood is not an excuse to leave the action aside. In The mother, Jennifer Lopez lives a trained assassin who leaves the hiding place and anonymity in which she lived for years to protect the daughter she never knew – which can be a very bad idea when there are criminals looking for revenge. Already in Mother of the Yearwe go to the other side of the law to follow this former special agent who returns to active duty to save her son (whom she also never knew) from a kidnapping.

And since the subject is exiting retirement, we can’t stop talking about Fubar. Despite being a name that says absolutely nothing, this Netflix series is the first starring the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger, who returns doing what he knows best: breaking everything. Thus, we have a CIA agent about to leave work, but who needs to embark on one last mission after discovering a family secret.

For lovers of Korean stories, Netflix’s bet in May is the electrifying Black Knight. In a mixture of Mad Max with the game Death Stranding and some YouTube channel of a delivery man working on a motorcycle, the series shows a dystopian future in which the world has been devastated by the population and the survival of humanity depends on delivery men. Subtlety went a long way.

But if you just want something light to relax and have fun with the family after Sunday lunch, Netflix brings back the trilogy to the catalog Shrek. So, you can gather the kids around the sofa to relive the ogre’s misadventures and have a few laughs with this upside-down fairy tale.

Of course, these are just some of the highlights of the month. Check out what else is coming to Netflix in May 2023 and get ready to marathon.
