The new Siri remote control may lose the connection to the Apple TV 4K: The remote is suddenly no longer able to control Apple’s TV box, as users report. The dropouts usually occur suddenly, even at close range and in many cases only sporadically. This can partly be remedied by restarting the remote control, at least until the next time the connection is lost.
tvOS 16.2 as a problem trigger?
Since the release of tvOS 16.2, reports of Bluetooth issues on the third generation Apple TV 4K seem to have increased significantly. There are now long threads on the subject in forums. The error was also recently observed on a device from the Mac & i editorial team.
The crashes only seem to occur in conjunction with the Siri Remote, which has also been revised, and which differs from its predecessor in having a USB-C connection. Control of the Apple TV via the “Apple TV Remote” integrated into the iPhone control center is still possible, emphasize those affected. In the interaction with game controllers, there are also unusual dropouts.
Restart Siri Remote
The Siri remote can be restarted by simultaneously pressing and holding the TV button and the volume down button for around five seconds. A “Connected” message should then appear on the TV if communication with the Apple TV has been reestablished. Alternatively, the remote control has to be paired again: To do this, you have to press and hold the back and volume up buttons for around five seconds in the immediate vicinity of the TV box. In individual cases, however, this does not seem to help either, then the only option is to restart or reset the TV box. Even replacing the Apple TV 4K at Apple didn’t help, users write – the new Apple TV shows the same problem.
Apple has not yet commented on the problem. It remains to be seen whether tvOS 16.3 will eliminate the connection problems. The new version of the operating system should appear parallel to iOS 16.3 in calendar week 4.
