The margin is narrowing in McCarthy’s favor in the longest presidential election in over 160 years.
But he got only 213 votes and needs to get 218 to be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives and thus become one of the most powerful people in the United States, and he didn’t get it the twelfth time either.

But word came that a 13th vote would begin.
Ahead of the twelfth vote, McCarthy had already promised to return to an old House rule that one member’s demand is enough for a vote of no confidence to be carried out.
