Municipal authorities announce the construction of a building in The Bronx that will have affordable housing.
Apparently The Powerhouse Apartments building will be located on Powers Avenue, east of 142nd Street, and will have 90 units.for New Yorkers of various incomes.
Its construction is part of the City’s goal of giving the green light to 24 affordable housing projects this year.
Currently there is a parking lot at the site where teachers from two schools in the area park their cars.
City sources assure that there will be replacement parking, while the new building will have a community space, gym, theater with capacity for 150 people and a site for workforce development.
It is also expected to have built-in climate resilience features, such as lighter colored materials to reduce cooling needs, plants and solar panels, among others.
A construction schedule is not yet ready.
