After the developers behind the reboot series around the tough treasure hunter Lara Croft have been busy developing Marvel’s Avengers since the conclusion of the trilogy in 2018, Crystal Dynamics should soon be time for a new project. Because according to – so far unconfirmed – rumors, the further development and update maintenance of the live service game will soon be discontinued. One of the reasons for this is the rather moderate success of the superhero game. And there has been speculation about a new Tomb Raider for a long time. Recently, for example, that Amazon Games will probably act as a publisher after the trademark rights have been sold by Square Enix.
Marvel’s Avengers favors development of Tomb Raider
Sure, it’s never nice for fans and players of live service games when their game is about to end. With the superhero action game Marvel’s Avengers, however, that was a long time coming. After struggling with numerous difficulties for the release, the number of players decreased rapidly just a few weeks later.
For a multiplayer game, this is usually the death knell. The developers behind the game, Crystal Dynamics, may not have had it easy since then either. After selling its western divisions last year, Square Enix decided not to continue working with the developers.
However, the news of the upcoming end of development of Marvel’s Avengers could also have something good: According to rumors, Crystal Dynamics has been working on a new Tomb Raider for a long time (buy now €53.33 ). And that could be revealed in a few months!
Announcement in a few months?
The last Tomb Raider is now almost five years old. 2018 saw Lara Croft’s final adventure, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Since then, there has always been news about a possible new Tomb Raider. Recently, for example, we reported that Amazon will publish the new Tomb Raider.
The news that Square Enix has sold many of its western studios and brands may also have influenced the development of a new adventure with Lara. According to a report by eXputer.com, a new Tomb Raider could be announced later this year. According to insiders, the game should already be in full development and a release shouldn’t be long in coming.
That could mean a reveal could come at this year’s E3 before the game then releases for the holiday season. Or it will take even longer and we won’t get a new Tomb Raider until 2024 or even later.
