This Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct announced the next batch of updates for the best-selling game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Since March 2022, the Booster Course Pass has been adding new tracks to the six-year-old successful game on Nintendo Switch.

The fourth wave of DLC adds, for the first time, a new character to the game: Birdo, a female dinosaur that made her debut in Super Mario Bros. two for the NES and is a frequent face of the mustachioed sports games. Like Yoshi and Shy Guy, Birdo will have multiple color options to choose from.

As for the new clues, only one has already been revealed: Yoshi’s Island, unprecedented in the franchise. As each wave of the Booster Course Pass adds two cups — each with four courses — to the game, seven more courses are expected in the coming months. Among them can be both modern versions of classic tracks and adaptations of levels from the mobile version of the game, Mario Kart Tour.

The exact date for Birdo to take the wheel on the Switch tracks has not yet been confirmed: the announcement mentions spring in the northern hemisphere, which begins in March.

The Booster Course Pass should, by the end of 2023, receive two more waves of updates. Birdo sets the precedent for the return of new characters to emerge by then. The expansion is free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and can be purchased separately for R$129.90.
