Nine taxi dispatchers charged with bribery

Nine taxi dispatchers at JFK airport were indicted on bribery charges.

They were accused of accepting more than $12,000 in bribes over the past two years.in exchange for letting drivers skip the line to pick up passengers.

Usually, taxis that work at the airport have to wait in a central parking lot and dispatchers send them to the taxi stands in the terminals in the order in which they arrive.

However, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, at least nine dispatchers abused the system, allowing drivers to skip the line if they were paid as little as $5 in cash or through a payment app. like CashApp or Zelle.

All of the defendants were working for an outside contractor, and not for the Port Authority that manages the airport.
