The very presence of Nintendo is surprising. After inaugurating the fashion for digital conferences with their famous Nintendo Direct in 2011, and sending the revival from E3 earlier this year, it seemed like gamescom wouldn’t appeal to them anymore. Especially since the Kyoto firm had politely refused to participate in the 2022 edition after having “carefully weigh the pros and cons“.

The Return of the Small Craftsman
It remains to be seen which other major publishers will bet on the physical in 2023. Our eyes turn in particular to Sony and PlayStation, which were conspicuous by their absence last year. The organizers promise to unveil the participants over the next few days, no doubt at the pace of contracts in backstage.
