After three days, royal experts leave the coronation of King Charles III. and Camilla review. These touching moments will go down in history.

London – It’s outrageous what the royal expert Leontine von Schmettow (50) said as a commentator on the coronation of Charles III. (74) has to report on other coronations the day after the enthronement in Das! Talk (Das Erste) with Inka Schneider (55): “We know that a lot can go wrong,” she praises the good preparation of the British royal couple. “There have been crowns dropped, pages turned, and queens sent out to be brought back in because the service wasn’t even over.” None of this happened at Westminster Abbey on May 6. On the contrary, there were many touching moments, enthuses the journalist. You can read about the best ones here.

As with Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022), despite the rain, no seat remained unoccupied

“They both look a bit exhausted,” says Schneider, looking at the balcony scene. “They really didn’t spare themselves,” explains Schmettow. Weeks before the liturgy was rehearsed again and again. She suspects that both of them could not have been sure whether people would come at all. There would certainly have been anxious moments when Charles and Camilla would have asked themselves: “Will the streets be full at all?” The royal family experts are all the more pleased about the view from the balcony, which made it clear: As with Queen Elizabeth II (96 , † 2022) despite the rain, no seat remained unoccupied.

Only Camilla, 75, makes a human mishap when she straightens her hair after wearing the spectacular Queen Mary’s Crown. Strictly speaking, only the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby (67), entrusted with the act of coronation, is allowed to touch the crown. Of course, the inappropriate gesture will now go down in the history books, Inka Schneider correctly notes.

Who noticed? Charles III changes the crown after the coronation

Made especially for the moment of the coronation act, Charles III. the stately weight of St Edward’s Crown of 2.27 kilograms, which also stands just over 30 centimeters in height. As a symbol of the Christian faith, it carries the cross on top. 444 precious stones, including rubies, amethysts and sapphires, cover the solid gold frame. A velvet cap with an ermine ribbon is said to make it more comfortable to wear. On leaving the abbey, Charles III. the crown that has been placed on every British monarch since 1661, against the Imperial State Crown, for actually the St. Edward’s crown is never allowed to leave the church. For security reasons, however, she is now being taken to the other crown jewels in the Tower.

In retrospect, the moment is approaching when Prince William (40) swore allegiance to the monarch. The Prince of Wales knelt before his father, touched the crown and kissed his father on the cheek: “And now you have to watch the king’s gaze,” enthuses von Schmettow. The expression becomes soft, a little touched, she explains. “It was an almost intimate moment in an official, very formal ceremony,” she shares her personal highlight. But the expert Charles III also calculates that Prince Harry (38), as a “resigned” but “not excluded” member, was sitting in the third row close to the Royals. high on. “I would have thought he was sitting much further away.” She thinks it’s a nice gesture from a father who recognizes his second child as a “still beloved member of the family”.

The coronation was a resounding success and there is still praise from the expert for Prince George’s (9) seriousness in carrying Grandpa’s train and for the heartbreakingly yawning Prince Louis (5). It is important for Charles to come into contact with people, “he has a talent for that,” confirms von Schmettow the king and tells one of her favorite stories towards the end: Princess Kate (41) was asked on the Mall if she was nervous may be. Her answer: “I am like a swan, calm on the outside and paddling my legs underneath.” All information, pictures and updates about the coronation of Charles III. is here in the live ticker.
