After a period of sub-zero temperatures, the mild weather is now returning.

– Now warm air is on its way over southern Norway. On Tuesday and Wednesday it will be plus degrees even in the mountains.

That’s what meteorologist on duty in Storm, Mariann Aabrekk, says.

She says that this means both sleet and zero, rain that freezes on the road and slush.

– We are going to visit all these weather types, says Aabrekk.

In Western Norway and in Agder, a lot of rain is expected over the next few days.

It will also be wet in Trøndelag and Nordland, says Aabrekk.

– There will be a lot of rain and a lot of wind in Nordland. The wind is already in place. It’s going to be a full storm, she says.

High avalanche danger

We have put a cold weekend behind us. In several places in the interior, the temperature has dropped past the -30s. But already on Monday afternoon the temperature has risen.

The mild weather extends across southern Norway, but also Trøndelag and Nordland.

The sudden drop in temperature drastically increases the risk of avalanches.

– We have sent out a warning of great avalanche danger in Jotunheimen. But the avalanche danger actually applies to the whole of southern Norway, says Emma Julseth Barfod, head of the Avalanche Warning Service.

She says that rain in the mountains means that the chances of naturally triggered landslides are high.

– Avoid avalanche terrain now. Keep a good distance from steep sides with snow, she says.

Getting cold again

The mild weather does not mean that spring is on its way. The cold will return already this week, according to meteorologist Mariann Aabrekk.

– The mild weather is very transient. It will be freezing again during Thursday, she says.

At the same time, Aabrekk urges caution on the road, especially in the mountains.

– The changes in the route are greatest on the mountain passes and at altitude.
