The Vorarlberg amateur astronomers invite all interested members of the public to a public observation of the sun in the promenade at Garnmarkt. It starts at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m.

The event will only take place with good visibility. That means about 50% of the sky must be clear of clouds. In the event of bad weather, there will be an alternative date on Saturday, May 20th.

Our sun is currently in the ascending phase of its eleven-year activity cycle. This means that with any luck, some sunspots and other features on the Sun will be visible. But it is also possible that not a single sunspot can be seen.

We will take aim at the sun with partly self-made telescopes. The observation is completely safe! The eyes of the participants are protected from the immense abundance of light from the sun by complex and tested protective filters.

Among other things, a very complex special filter will be used, which makes it possible to track huge masses of gas that have been captured by the strong magnetic field of the sun and are thrown into space.

Take a look at the still unpredictable and mysterious sun!
