“Of course he lost”: Ron DeSantis admits that Donald Trump was defeated in the 2020 election

Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida and Republican presidential candidate, recently admitted that former President Donald Trump lost the elections held in 2020 and that the current president of the United States, Joe Biden, won., a topic that had frequently evaded in recent years. This was reported by the news portal NBC News.

In an interview with NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns, DeSantis stated emphatically that Trump was defeated: “Of course he lost. Joe Biden is the president.”

At first, DeSantis had evaded clearly answering Burns’ question, explaining that “Whoever puts their hand on the bible on January 20 every four years is the winner“, but the correspondent pressured the presidential candidate to answer clearly.

However, DeSantis’s position regarding the 2020 elections had been raised at a political event in Iowa last Friday.

According to information from NBC News, at said event, the also governor of Florida dismissed theories that indicated that the 2020 elections had been “stolen.”

“I have said on many occasions that the elections are what they are. And all those theories that went on the air did not prove it to be true (that they were stolen). But I’ve also said that if you want to run elections that people have confidence in, you can’t change the rules in the middle of the game,” DeSantis said.

At the end of June, Ron DeSantis completely distanced himself from the events of January 6, 2021, when protesters besieged the US Capitol.

“I have nothing to do with what happened that day,” the Florida governor said at another campaign event in late June in New Hampshire.

However, DeSantis’s statements, at this time, come at a time that many might consider opportune: just after former President Trump was charged with attempting to intervene in the 2020 election results and trying to obstruct the certification of election results.
