A crown, many flowers and a symbol for every part of Britain: the official emblem for the coronation of King Charles III. has been presented. Buckingham Palace released the work of British designer Jony Ive, who also designed Apple’s iPhones, late last night.
At the center of the emblem is the Edwardian crown, with which Charles (74) is to be crowned on May 6th. It is decorated with blossoms symbolizing the different national flowers from the four parts of the United Kingdom – the rose from England, the thistle from Scotland, the daffodil from Wales and the shamrock from Northern Ireland. The emblem is red, blue and white, the British national colours.
“The design is inspired by King Charles’ love for the planet, the environment and deep concern for the natural world,” Ive said in a statement. The emblem should also reflect the optimism of spring and celebrate the start of the new Caroline era for the UK. The emblem is to be used during Coronation weekend in early May, as well as on gift items and informational materials.
