Due to weather conditions and the state of emergency in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, Formula 1 decided to cancel the Imola Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend. Through a statement, F1 made its position official in which it explained that there are no conditions that guarantee the safety of those involved, starting with the fans.
Formula 1 cancels the Imola Grand Prix
“Following discussions between Formula 1, the FIA president, the competent authorities, including the relevant ministers, the president of the Automobile Club of Italy, the president of the Emilia-Romagna region, the mayor of the city and the promoter , the decision has been made not to proceed with the Grand Prix weekend at Imola.
“The decision has been made because it is not possible to carry out the event safely for our fans, the teams and our staff and it is the correct and responsible thing to do in light of the situation that the towns and cities of the region are going through. It would not be right to put more pressure on local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time.” states the statement.
The teams support the decision of Formula 1 in Imola
The teams have expressed support for the decision made by Formula 1, as the case of Red Bull, that in his social networks he stated that the priority at this time is the security and support of the people who live in the region.
“After the heavy rains that have been affecting northern Italy, We support the decision made by F1 not to continue with the Imola Grand Prix this weekend. The safety of everyone involved and in the region is paramount and has to take priority.”indica.
So far it is unknown if any other date will be sought later in the calendar.
