Jonathan Schmid will say goodbye to SC Freiburg when his contract ends in June. At today’s press conference, head coach Christian Streich confirmed the departure of the 32-year-old right-back at the end of the current season. For Schmid, this closes the Freiburg chapter after the last two difficult seasons.

A serious corona disease threw the French back so badly in the 2021/22 season that the veteran subsequently lost touch. In the current season, Schmid has played a meager 38 minutes in two games. Streich left it open whether the former top performer would receive another assignment as a farewell. Schmid played a total of 217 competitive games for SCF.
