Antoine Léaument and the Minister of the Interior had a tense exchange in the National Assembly on Tuesday, during which Gérald Darmanin notably accused the LFI deputies of being “accomplices” in the violence of May 1.

“You are damaging democracy”. MP Antoine Léaument attacked Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and her government in the National Assembly on Tuesday. In the aftermath of a May Day punctuated by violence and against a background of protest against the pension reform, the Insoumis notably accused the majority “of using the police, not to guarantee the right to demonstrate, but to repress it” .

“Your record is violence, he continued, that’s enough” before supporting the injured during the demonstrations the day before.

After having mentioned the pots and pans that have accompanied the travels of ministers for a few weeks, a sign, according to Antoine Léaument, that the government must no longer govern, the deputy from Essonne concluded his speech thus: “Down with Macron and the bad Republic (…). On July 14, you will have your capture of the Bastille”.

“You are the accomplices of this violence”

The remarks supported by the Insoumis obviously did not please the Minister of the Interior who hastened to answer him. And immediately accused him of “not liking the police”.

“I regret that after unacceptable violence which injured 405 police officers yesterday, including a police officer who could have died, you do not have a word for these fathers and mothers of families”, launched Gérald Darmanin to Antoine Léaument, making in particular referring to the member of the police burned the day before during the Parisian demonstration.

“You are the accomplices of this violence”, concluded Gérald Darmanin, addressing the deputies of rebellious France whom he reproaches for not condemning them.
