Transported to hospital

The accident has led to extensive material damage at the site. The operations manager states that an investigation has been launched. Both witnesses and those involved are questioned.

– We have not received feedback that it will be slippery on the site and it is too early to say anything about the reason, says Ormaasen.

He says everyone is off the buses and the injured have been taken to hospital. The ages of those involved are not known.

The police’s incident leader at the scene, Arve Hermansen, says there is no clear cause for the accident.

– We have started a fairly extensive investigation on the spot. There are no witnesses who directly saw the accident itself, but we hope the investigations we are now doing will bring us closer to what happened, says Hermansen to TV 2.

He says the police have had initial conversations with the two uninjured people, but that they are strongly affected by the accident.

– Serious accident

Operations manager Ormaasen said earlier that all the emergency services were at the scene, and were working to get an overview of whether there were also people with minor injuries at the scene.

– It’s a serious accident, two buses head-on. We work with first aid and extrication, said duty manager Roger Andersen at the 110 central to TV 2.

A rescue helicopter is also on the scene. Vegtrafikksentralen reports that the road is closed in both directions following the accident.

Fredrikstad bridge is part of national highway 110 and connects the center of Fredrikstad with the Old Town.

The road will be closed for some time to come, the police say.
