Good news for fans of One Piece. Announced in 2020, the series in live action, adapted from the famous manga by Eiichiro Oda, will be released on Netflix in 2023, according to the platform.

On Twitter, Netflix also shared two first visuals of the program on which we see the main character of the saga, Luffy, from behind facing a setting sun then accompanied by his four “Mugiwaras” – the Straw Hat crew – Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Sanji and Usopp.

They will be played on screen by Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Taz Skylar and Jacob Romero Gibson respectively. Luffy will be played by Mexican comedian Iñaki Godoy.

Steven Ward (Dracule Mihawk), Alexander Maniatis (Klahadore), Craig Fairbrass (Chef Zeff), Langley Kirkwood (Morgan), Celeste Loots (Kaya) and Chioma Umeala (Nojiko) complete this cast.

A first season of 12 episodes

For the moment, no precise release date has been revealed by Netflix. The first season of this live-action series will consist of ten episodes that will retrace the “East Blue Saga” arc, i.e. the first twelve volumes of the manga.

Steven Maeda (X Files, Lost), is the showrunner, screenwriter and producer of this ambitious adaptation.

First published in 1997, One Piece tells the incredible adventures of Luffy, a young man who acquired the properties of rubber after swallowing a devil fruit. With his crew, he seeks to get his hands on Gol D. Roger’s treasure, the “One Piece”, to become the next king of the pirates.
