Mountain View (California), May 10 (EFE).- PaLM 2, Google’s new language model (LLM), is behind 25 of the company’s products, including its chatbot with artificial intelligence (AI), Bard, according to the tech giant announced at its annual developer conference, Google I/O, on Wednesday.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, explained that this next-generation language model is good at reasoning, math, programming, and is multilingual.

“PaLM 2 models are stronger in logic and reasoning, thanks to extensive training in logic and reasoning,” Pichai said from the stage at the company’s I/O conference.

PaLM 2’s extensive data set includes scientific articles and web pages containing mathematical expressions, so you have enhanced capabilities in logic, common-sense reasoning, and mathematics.

PaLM 2 supports more than 100 languages ​​and is not only capable of literal translations, but also capable of understanding and translating idioms, poems, and riddles.

He has also been trained in 20 programming languages.

This means that it “excels” in popular programming languages ​​like Python and JavaScript, but it can also generate specialized code in languages ​​like Prolog, Fortran, and Verilog.

“If you need help programming a piece of code, it’s not only capable of fixing the code, but it also provides the documentation the user needs in any language,” the company said at a panel discussion ahead of the event.

PaLM 2 will also be on mobile devices, even offline.

FROM CHATBOTS TO MEDICINE

The multilingual capabilities of this tool allow the company to expand its AI chatbot, Bard, into new languages.

For its part, the medical branch of this LLM called Med-PaLM 2, achieves state-of-the-art results in medical competence and can answer medical exam questions at an “expert physician level” and is accurate 85% of the time.

In addition, Google is training this tool so that it can synthesize information such as X-rays and mammograms “to, one day, improve patient outcomes.”

For its part, Sec-PaLM is trained in security use cases.

THE AI RACE

Google first announced the PaLM language model in April 2022.

These updates come as the race to be the go-to for AI chatbots between Google and Microsoft heats up.

Microsoft’s AI tools, meanwhile, are powered by Open AI’s GPT-4 and DALL-E 2 technology (creators of ChatGPT and DALL-E).
