The draw for the second phase of sales, which begins on May 11, will bring together four million people for 1.5 million places available.

There will again be happy people and disappointed people. The registration phase for single tickets, which had been launched since March 15, closed on Thursday April 20, and brought together “four million subscribers” in search of a precious sesame, according to the organizing committee of the Olympic Games (Cojo). As with the first wave of tickets in packs, the draw phase for these single tickets will open from May 15

A ticket office, open internationally, which will offer 1.5 million seats. A clear discrepancy with the number of registrants, which underlines the expectation around the competition. In mid-March, the president of the Cojo, Tony Estanguet, warned AFP that there would not be only happy people. “It won’t be for everyone and I expect this second phase to continue to generate disappointments and frustrations. It’s inevitable, but it will once again make people happy and you have to try your luck“.

Criticized during the first phase, in particular for prices deemed excessive, the organization of the Games is counting on this second salvo to bring people together. Places will also be available for the opening ceremony which will take place on the Seine, for prices ranging from 90 to 2700 euros.

First come, first served

Once again, it was necessary to count on being among the first drawn because the sales will be made “over the water, on a first-come-first-served basis“, announces the Cojo. For those still without a ticket, it will be necessary to be patient until the next sales phases scheduled for the end of 2023, one for the Paralympics and one for the remaining places, the last of which will not be decided by draw. by lot.

As a reminder, of the 10 million Olympic tickets, eight are sold directly to the general public. After a first phase where 3.25 million tickets were sold, more than half of the tickets available to the general public will have been distributed after this second phase. The State has, for its part, already announced the purchase of 400,000 tickets for schoolchildren, volunteers from the sports movement or people with disabilities.

Other public entities such as communities, the City of Paris or the department of Seine-Saint-Denis for example, have pre-ordered tickets. Ticketing revenue should bring in nearly 1.4 billion euros out of an overall budget of 4.4 billion for the organizing committee, or a third of the total budget.
