Paris dedicates a street to rock star David Bowie

PARIS.- The city of Paris will name a street after the British rock star on January 8 David Bowieindicated the authorities, in a tribute to the singer eight years after his death.

Rue David Bowie will be part of the street map of the capital’s 13th district, between the Austerlitz train station and the François Mitterrand national library, near the Seine River.

The street, about 50 meters long, was previously known to urban planners as VoieDZ/13, a working title that might have pleased the author of songs like TVC15 o 5:15.

Bowie, who died on January 10, 2016 due to cancer at the age of 69, is one of the most influential and best-selling musicians of the 20th century, since his success Space Oddity in 1969.

Among the reference songs and albums of this chameleonic artist, in constant reinvention, are Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars y Aladdin Saneand successes like Let’s Dance.

Although Paris played a less important role in Bowie’s life than London, Berlin or Los Angeles, French avant-garde theater culture influenced his visual style.

An enigmatic phrase from the song Aladdin Sane refers to Paris or maybe hell.

The official inauguration of the street is scheduled for Monday at 4:15 p.m. (3:15 p.m. GMT), the mayor of the district, Jérôme Coumet, announced on the social network X, a self-confessed Bowie fan who launched the idea in 2020.
