Parking the car at night – you have to keep that in mind
When it comes to driving and parking, there are hard and fast laws and regulations that most should be aware of. Nevertheless, there are some exceptions and additional provisions that probably not every driver is familiar with. Many of you are probably familiar with the situation: You come home from work and it is already dark. If you then discover a parking space, you grab it directly and look forward to the end of the day. What many forget: If you park your car on a dark street, you are obliged to turn on the parking lights. Otherwise there is a risk that other drivers will overlook the parked car and an accident will occur. The driver who forgot to turn on the parking light wears one partial liability.
Unfortunately, many do not even know how to turn on the parking lights. A look at the car’s operating instructions will help here. If a car is parked in a town or at least near a street lamp, the parking lights may remain switched off. But beware: Some street lamps don’t stay on all night. In Germany, these lanterns are marked with the traffic sign 394 and can be recognized by the red ring with a white border. If you want to be on the safe side, it is better to always switch on the parking lights.
