Thanks to prudent and quick-reacting Berlin police officers, an arson attack on an activist of the “last generation” could be prevented at the very last second.

A group of climate stickers had stuck to the road at Hermannplatz in Neukölln on Thursday morning when a passer-by broke away from a group of onlookers and approached an activist with an already lit lighter. “The man tried to ignite the glue with which the activist had stuck himself to the asphalt,” police spokesman Martin Halweg reported to FOCUS online on request. The police had previously reported on the case on Twitter.

“Activist was very lucky”

Thanks to “quickly reacting colleagues”, the arson attack on the activist was literally “thwarted at the last second by a colleague pulling the man away from the activist,” added Halweg on the incident.

According to the spokesman, the person attacked was “very lucky”, because superglue usually consists of highly flammable substances. “Once it’s on fire, it doesn’t go out that quickly and it continues to burn.”

The attacker was temporarily arrested and released after his personal details were determined. Proceedings for attempted grievous bodily harm are now being instituted against him.
