Just in time for patch day in January 2023, Microsoft is providing its operating systems Windows 11 and Windows 10 and, for the last time, the older versions Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with fresh updates. With a focus on bug fixes, we show the new features at a glance.

This week not only marks the first patch day of the new year 2023, it is also the last for the two outgoing operating systems Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. After various extensions, support will be discontinued and no further security-related updates will be published.

Users of Windows 10 (21H1, 21H2 and 22H2) and Windows 11 (21H2 and 22H2), on the other hand, get the usual makeover under the hood, even if this is manageable due to the past public holidays in January.

Windows 10 & Windows 11: A handful of bug fixes in January

With the KB5022282 patch, Microsoft raises its Windows 10 versions to build 1904x.2486. In the official changelog, the Redmond company addresses problems with the Local Session Manager (LSM) and bugs in connection with Open Database Connectivity (ODBC). An error has also been fixed that could trigger blue screens with the error code 0xc000021a on startup.

Windows 11, on the other hand, supplies Microsoft with the updates KB5022303 (22H2) and KB5022287 (21H2) and thus brings the operating systems to build 22621.1105 and 22000.1455 respectively. In terms of changes, there are no differences from the Windows 10 updates. Both share the same changelog, which we detail below.
