The deputies of the left-wing coalition announced that they would withdraw several hundred amendments this Wednesday evening in order to speed up the debates in the National Assembly on the pension reform.

New twist in the National Assembly. The Nupes has announced that it will withdraw at least several hundred amendments on the pension reform, in order to be able to arrive more quickly at article 7 of the bill. Just one day after announcing the withdrawal of a thousand amendments.

“The objective is to pass to the vote as quickly as possible”, justifies the microphone of LCP the socialist deputy Philippe Brun.

According to information from BFMTV, nearly 3,000 amendments were withdrawn shortly before midnight. The Socialist Party indicates that it has withdrawn “90%” of their amendments up to Article 7. In the hemicycle, Cyrielle Chatelain, president of the environmental group, affirmed that the EELV deputies had “already withdrawn more than 400 amendments.”

The objective of this withdrawal is to react to the announcement of the motion of censure by RN deputies, while responding to pressure from the unions, who absolutely want a vote on article 7 of the pension reform.

“It was time for the Nupes to be reasonable,” rejoices at the microphone of LCP the deputy Les Républicains Stéphane Viry. “They withdraw them a little late”, however deplores Erwan Balanant (MoDem).

Thousands more amendments

Because according to data from the site of the National Assembly, there remained, at the suspension of the session this Wednesday evening, 10,936 amendments to be examined before this Friday, midnight. Also according to the site of the National Assembly, since the beginning of the examination of the text, 4740 amendments (out of 20452 tabled) have been withdrawn by the parliamentary groups. Nearly 4,000 were also deemed inadmissible.

Nearly 1,100 have yet to be discussed, but some will be ruled inadmissible and others withdrawn.

At 48 hours from the end of the debates, the deputies must therefore still examine several thousand amendments. And the opposition, in particular the RN, also fears the obstruction of the presidential majority, in order to prevent a vote.

For a “referendum” to take place in the National Assembly on pension reform, Marine Le Pen has decided to table a motion of censure with her colleagues. It could be debated as early as Friday evening.
