In a letter addressed to the President of the Republic, the four presidents of the parliamentary groups of Nupes request a new deliberation on the pension reform by invoking article 10 of the Constitution.

“A truncated debate without a vote of the National Assembly”. A few hours after the validation by the Constitutional Council of the essentials of the pension reform, which notably provides for a postponement of the legal retirement age to 64, the Nupes asks Emmanuel Macron for a new discussion on the text at the National Assembly.

Evoking in a letter – which BFMTV was able to consult – a political sequence “devastating for our democratic and social Republic”, the presidents of the parliamentary groups of the left alliance ask the president to activate article 10 paragraph 2 of the Constitution which provides that he may “request from Parliament a new deliberation of the law or of certain of its articles”.

“Today, after the Constitutional Council has rendered its decision (…) it is clear that the wounds are still alive in the country and that the sequence is not over”, can we read in this letter sent to Emmanuel Macron.

“Our four groups do not resign themselves”

“By making use of this prerogative (Article 10.2 of the Constitution (…) you would finally allow a calm debate to be held in Parliament on the substance of this text, a debate that the country has been calling for for three months”, also write the group presidents.

For Mathilde Panot (LFI), Cyrielle Chatelain (EELV), Boris Vallaud (PS) and André Chassaigne (PCF), this debate would be “all the more necessary since this text has been partially censored”. “The law that you are about to promulgate is an amputated law. A law of which only the skeleton remains, unjust, brutal and decried by our fellow citizens”, they add.

“Our four groups are not resigned – will never be resigned – to the fact that the country remains fractured as it is today”, is it finally written at the end of the letter.
