A special letter from the Deutsche Rentenversicherung could land in your mailbox in the next few days.
Because starting next week, the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund (DRV) will be sending out information letters on social elections.
German pension insurance sends mail
What is social choice? Around 52 million insured persons who are entitled to vote, pensioners of the German Pension Insurance Association and the substitute funds will then be able to elect their honorary representatives to the respective social parliaments. In principle, everyone who pays or has paid contributions should be able to have a say.
Insured persons have their own parliaments in their respective insurance companies (health, pension and accident insurance). They decide on the budget and appoint the board.
The German pension insurance reports that the addressees can see from the pre-election notice how the election works and why it is worth voting. Insured persons and pensioners who have reached the age of 16 on January 1, 2023 are entitled to vote.
Social elections take place every six years
Those entitled to vote determine the composition of the collection of representatives of the pension insurance for the next six years.
This committee then decides, for example, on the use of contribution money, the range of rehabilitation services or on objections to decisions that have been issued. In addition, the representatives check whether contributions from insured persons and employers are used correctly.
Those entitled to vote will not receive the correct postal voting documents until the end of April. The ballot papers must be received by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund by May 31, 2023 at the latest. Those entitled to vote who have not received their voting documents by May 11 should, according to the applicable regulations, submit an application for the issue and transmission of the voting documents by May 19 at the latest.
