The number of people of retirement age will increase to 3.9 million by 2030. In which cities and districts the increase is particularly noticeable:

The number of people of retirement age in North Rhine-Westphalia will increase by around ten percent by 2030. This is the result of a forecast published by the State Statistical Office on Monday.

According to this, around 3.9 million people aged 67 or more will be living in NRW in 2030. This is around 350,000 more people than is expected to be at the beginning of 2024 (3.5 million). This corresponds to an increase of 10.1 percent.

Low increase in urban districts

From 2024 to 2030, the statisticians expect higher growth in the districts than in the urban districts. The largest increases are expected in the districts of Coesfeld (18.5 percent), Paderborn (17.6 percent) and Borken (17.4 percent). The independent city with the greatest change is Münster with growth of 13.4 percent.

The cities of Düsseldorf (4.4 percent), Essen (4.6 percent) and Hagen (4.6 percent) can expect the lowest increase in the population aged 67 and over. The district with the lowest increase is Mettmann with 7.0 percent. (epd)
