After the removal of the former president Pedro Castillothe government of Peru is going through a major institutional crisis. Now him Congress rejected the request of the current president, Dina Boluarteto advance the elections to the end of this year.

According to NA, the initiative required the support of 87 of the 130 congressmen, but only 53 voted in favor. The advancement of elections had to be approved by two consecutive annual legislatures and the first ended today, however it was extended until February 10.

If this period had not been extended, the decision on the advance of the elections would have been postponed for at least one year.

Although it was a request from the Peruvian president, the project was presented by the parliamentarian Hernando Guerra Garciapresident of the Constitution Commission. The initiative raised the celebration in December of complementary electionswhich involves electing a new president and deputies to complete the period that began in 2021 and ends in 2026.

The request is given in the framework of the wave of protests in Peru asking for new elections and therefore, for the departure of boluarte from power, who was left in charge after the dismissal of Castle for being its vice president.
