The former Pakistani dictator, pervez musharrafpassed away in Dubai at the age of 79 after a long diseaseThis was announced by the Pakistani army this Sunday.

The high military commanders “express their sincere condolences on the death of General pervez musharraf”, according to a brief statement released on Sunday by the army press service.

May Allah bless the soul of the deceased and give strength to the grieving family”, the statement says.

The four-star general passed away on Sunday morning in a dubai hospitalaccording to local media outlets and a senior security official who spoke to the news agency AFP.

I can confirm that the late general breathed his last in Dubai this morning. (…). He is no longer there, ”said the official, who asked that his name not be revealed.

Musharraf’s family announced in June 2022 that he had been hospitalized for weeks and suffered amyloidosisan incurable disease in which protein builds up in the body’s organs.

“He is going through a difficult phase in which recovery is not possible and the organs fail,” the family said. They later said it needed access to the drug daratumumab, which is used to treat multiple myeloma.

pervez musharraf led a coup in 1999 against Nawaz Sharifwho wanted to dismiss him after having appointed him army chief a year earlier above higher-ranking officers.

He June 20, 2001 Musharraf officially became the President of Pakistan until his resignation on August 18, 2018.

Musharraf won a five-year term as president in a 2002 referendum, but he failed to fulfill his promises to leave the army headquarters at the end of 2007.

In December 2007, after the assassination of the opposition leader benazir bhutto and the crushing defeats suffered by his allies in the 2008 elections Musharraf was completely isolatedbeing forced to resign.

Musharraf’s plan to return to power in 2013 was cut short when He was disqualified from running in an election won by Nawaz Sharifthe man he ousted in 1999.

In 2016 Musharraf traveled to Dubai for medical treatment.

Three years later, was sentenced to death in absentia for treason for having decreed the state of emergency in 2007.

However, a court later overturned the sentence.

He also led Pakistan to reluctantly assist in the US war in Afghanistan against the Taliban.

I have faced and defied death several times in the past. because fate has always smiled on me”, Musharraf once wrote. “I just pray he has more than the cat’s legendary nine lives.”
