Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia said Thursday that he will meet soon with the new president of LUMA Energy, Juan Saca.
The meeting aims to discuss Saca’s ability to lead the energy consortium.
“The important thing is his managerial experience, his ability to communicate well and clearly what the entity is doing and to lead it”expressed Pierluisi in reference to Saca.
The governor stated that during the meeting he will make a series of recommendations to Saca, and he hopes that these will be taken into account. “The important thing here is that the reconstruction and transformation of our energy system continue. Without delay and with the greatest effectiveness. That is what suits Puerto Rico”Pierluisi added.
Its approval would have a devastating impact on the economy.
Pierluisi indicated that he had been making a claim about the need for a new leadership at LUMA Energy for some time. However, he specified that finding the right person was not an easy task, given the great responsibility involved in running the company.
In response to questions from the press about the constant power outages and high demand due to heat, Pierluisi clarified that the number of customers affected is only 1.1% of the total. However, he recognized that communication with the public needs to improve.
When will the electrical system stabilize?
“Well, I think that they have to do the same thing, of course, whenever they lose the service, be it for a repair or for the reconstruction itself, they are going to be uncomfortable because everyone wants the service, but the rest of the population what he wants is to rebuild the network”emphasized the governor.
In relation to the high demand for energy during the hot season, Pierluisi welcomed the additional generation that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing.
“I asked for it and FEMA has given it to us. Now, approximately 200 more megawatts are coming, we already have 150 additional megawatts, 200 more are coming in a matter of a couple of months. And I’m demanding even more”Pierluisi finished.
