Pierre de Maere confides in his love life and talks about his "first love"

Pierre de Maere is a rising artist on the French music scene. The 21-year-old Belgian singer caused a sensation in 2022 with his title One day I will marry an angel, which has been a real phenomenon on social networks and on the radio. He has accumulated more than 50 million plays with this song between YouTube and Spotify, a real hit named in the Song of the Year category at the Victoires de la Musique. Pierre de Maere unveiled his first album entitled Look at me last Friday, January 27, and performed on this occasion live on the show Dailya performance that did not go unnoticed.

“I wrote my fantasies, my projections”

This Sunday February 5, Pierre de Maere was Waxx’s guest on the show Lightning on RTL 2. The singer spoke for an hour about his new album, his inspirations and the process of writing his songs. “I haven’t written much about my life, because it wasn’t exciting until now, now it’s getting cool”, he confessed. “But before that, it wasn’t boring, but that was reasonably normal, nothing too exciting. It’s funny, I take roles quite often in my songs or so, what I did, I wrote down my fantasies, my projections. My first EP (Un jour, je, ndlr), it was a kind of wishlist for my life.”

“I had my first love not so long ago”

Pierre de Maere previously wrote very little about his personal life, but that changed somewhat on his first album, and especially in a song in which he revealed himself totally. “One day I will marry an angel, it’s not French, it’s a quest for tenderness, for love. (…) Today, it’s still a bit like that, whatever, I had my first love not so long ago, so there’s a song in the album called Jour -3 which speak”, he explained on the show. “It’s quite autobiographical actually.”, then continued the host. This statement was immediately qualified slightly by the singer, “Yes, a little of both. Fantasized autobiography, so for later, there are a few songs that talk about what I’ve been through this year. And then, there are plenty of songs that talk about things that I absolutely do not experience, but these are stories that I tell.“The young man who has been rather discreet about his personal life since the start of his career is starting to reveal himself to his audience.
