According to a specialized Hollywood media, the French actor will play the role of the painter Maurice Utrillo in the future feature film by Johnny Depp, whose shooting is scheduled for the fall.

Almost 25 years later, Johnny Depp will again direct a feature film: the biopic of Italian artist Amadeo Modigliani, Modigliani. This Wednesday evening, the American media specializing in cinema Deadline revealed some of the star cast. Along with Al Pacino (The Godfather) or even Riccardo Scamarcio (John Wick 2), the French actor Pierre Niney should play the role of the painter Maurice Utrillo.

On his Instagram account, Pierre Niney relayed the article by Deadline. “One dream at a time,” he then commented on his Twitter account.

According to the American media, the shooting of the second feature film directed by the star of Pirates of the Caribbean After The Brave in 1997 should begin this autumn in Budapest (Hungary).

“A lot of humility”

The biopic about the famous painter and sculptor Modigliani’s stay in Paris in 1916 is based on a play by Dennis McIntyre and adapted for film by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.

Last August, when this film was announced, Johnny Depp could not hide his pride in being at the helm of this project.

“I am incredibly honored to bring the saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life to the screen, and I will do so with great humility,” the actor had declared to the Hollywood Reporter. “His life was filled with great trials, but culminated in triumph – a universal human story that all viewers can relate to.”

The revelation of the casting comes a few days before the opening of the Cannes Film Festival where Johnny Depp will star in the film Jeanne du Barry by Maïwenn. A controversial choice since the actor is making his comeback after being accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Last spring and after six weeks of a show trial, the jurors concluded that the ex-spouses had defamed each other. But they granted more than 10 million dollars to Johnny Depp, against only 2 million for Amber Heard. The actress had initially appealed her conviction before finally abandoning her legal proceedings, citing an “agreement”.
