Users of Pixel smartphones have noticed a rather annoying issue. Some devices are overheating due to the Google app consuming too much battery. No solution has been found yet.

Google Pixels are currently having an issue with the Google app. Several users have already reported having the same problem. Google app overheats smartphone with excessive battery consumption. Several Pixel models are affected, both the Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel 6 via the Pixel 6a. The new Pixel 7a that we have already tested does not seem to be affected by this software problem.

For the past few days, affected users have noticed that their Pixel’s battery is draining faster than usual. The smartphone also overheats more. They suspect the problem is latest google app update which was deployed on May 12.

Google app drains Pixel battery since last update

Several testimonials from the users concerned are already circulating on social networks. They share their experience on Reddit and official Google forums. One of them revealed to Engadget that the Google app consumed 14% of the battery of its Pixel 6 Pro within one hour.

On Reddit, another user explains: Nothing worked. I tried force quitting Android System Intelligence which is using 14% of my battery while the Google app (regardless of version) is still leading with 18%. The phone is still warm, but it seems to be charging on a wireless charger. It’s incredibly frustrating “. In addition to the Google app itself, the Android System Intelligence component also has a battery drain problem.

Since the May 12 update of the Google application seems to be responsible, users have tried to reinstall an older version, not only. « I ended up with an even older version from May 10, it still drains the battery “says a user.

For the moment, no solution has been found. Google, which unveiled the Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet last week, hasn’t officially revealed anything yet. A fix should be coming soon though.. This isn’t the first Pixel bug and it won’t be the last. Two months ago, the Pixel 7 refused to save some photos due to a bug.
