Adaptations of PlayStation games for cinema and TV are running at full speed. While The Last of Us HBO is a hit and the movie Gran Turismo will be released in the summer, another series could be available.

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions don’t seem to want to set foot on film and TV projects. But for the moment, it works for them since the series The Last of Us is a huge box that the other adaptations will try to reproduce. Impossible mission ?

PlayStation teases the release of a new TV series

It was on Twitter that Asad Qizilbash, boss of PlayStation Productions, had fun teasing future game adaptations. He indeed published a video with visuals in reference to the film Gran Turismo and the series The Last of Us which were both intended for broadcast in 2023. But in his message, we can also read another more enigmatic sentence followed of two emoticons clown and flames.

PlayStation Productions’ year in one elevator ride. You can’t see me, but my head is on fire too.

The clues are rather obvious, Asad Qizilbash teases the Twisted Metal series with Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Neve Campbell (Scream), Thomas HadenChurch (Spider-Man 3) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). Unless there is a hitch during post-production, the television adaptation of the PlayStation Twisted Metal franchise will therefore be available this year. No release window to get your teeth into, but we know the broadcaster… in the United States.

Across the Atlantic, the TV show will be accessible from Peacock TV, a streaming service unavailable here. Therefore, we are probably heading towards a scenario similar to the series The Last of Us, namely that a broadcaster established in France will surely recover the rights. Maybe even Amazon Prime Video for the second time in a row?

The Twisted Metal series will be like the games, fun and violent, and will of course include the essential clown Sweet Tooth.

The other adaptations without any date, not even a window

Apart from the film Gran Turismo which will be released on August 9, 2023 in cinemas, the arrival of the other projects is much more vague. We know that the God of War and Horizon 2074 series will be available on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix respectively, but when?

The film Ghost of Tsushima does not even have a cast yet, and is therefore not ready to invade dark rooms. A Death Stranding feature film is also in the cards, but this time, without Sony Pictures or PlayStation Productions.
