A smartphone thief in Essen has thought better of it: he remorsefully handed over his loot to the police. The police are now trying to find out who owns the phone.

As the authorities reported on Thursday, the 23-year-old stole the mobile phone from an unlocked vehicle on Eiserne Hand street in the eastern district about two months ago. But then he showed himself remorseful to the residents of the home and, accompanied by his supervisor, confided in the police.

According to the investigators, the device that has now been seized is a Huawei P20 in the color “Twilight”.

Witnesses who can provide information about the owner of the smartphone are asked to call the Essen police on 0201/829-0.
