For four episodes, it tells the true story of Alexander Litvinenko (played by a David Tennant unrecognizable, shaved head and livid look), former Russian agent of the FSB, poisoned in 2006 with polonium 210 after having denounced the fraudulent actions of the Kremlin. Télé-Loisirs has collected the secrets of his widow, Marina Litvinenko.

“I want the truth to be heard all over the world”

Télé-Loisirs: How did your personal story become a series?
Marina Litvinenko: Richard Kerbaj, a producer and journalist from Times, approached me in 2016 to make a documentary about the poisoning of Alexander. He then wanted to make it a fiction and told me which actors were going to collaborate on the project, including David Tennant, an incredible, very committed human being. I was impressed (smile).

What advice did you give to the actress, Margarita Levieva, who plays you?
None. When Margarita arrived in London, we met several times, for walks, lunch, to see a play. But I didn’t give him any instructions. Margarita is a very talented actress. Especially since she is Russian and there are many similarities between our two lives. In the end, I found the series very successful and close to reality.

Did you have any doubts before accepting the project?
Yes, at the beginning, I was afraid that it would transform reality. But I finally let Richard Kerbaj do it because I realized it wasn’t just about me. The most important thing is to send a message. May the truth about my husband, his work in Russia and his murder be heard around the world. I would also like politicians and the younger generation, who may never have heard of my husband, to understand better what happened in 2006 and what is currently happening in Ukraine.
