Mexico City.- The national leadership of the PRD demanded that Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa leave office, once UNAM confirmed that by plagiarizing her thesis she obtained a bachelor’s degree at FES Aragón.
“The PRD demands that the Government stop protecting and victimizing criminals and demands that Minister Esquivel Mossa, in an act of ethical repentance and professional shame, resign from her position and stop damaging the honor of the plenary session of the SCJN” , said the Party of the Democratic Revolution, after the minister attended the Court session on Thursday.
He indicated that the minister committed an “illegal act” by copying substantial parts of the thesis of a student at the UNAM Law School.
“The National Executive Directorate of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) condemns this illegal act and expresses its concern and indignation at the permanence of Esquivel Mossa in her position as minister of the SCJN.
“Plagiarism is a crime typified in our Federal Criminal Code and is sufficient reason to disqualify Esquivel Mossa from public office,” the party warned.
He explained that the Constitution, in its article 95 section IV, states that to be elected minister of the SCJN it is necessary to ‘Enjoy a good reputation and not have been convicted of a crime that warrants a corporal punishment of more than one year in prison; but if it involves theft, fraud, forgery, breach of trust and any other that seriously damages the good reputation in the public sphere, he will be disqualified from office, whatever the penalty may have been.’
In addition, section II of the same article states that to be elected minister of the SCJN, it is necessary to have a ‘professional degree of Lawyer, issued by an authority or institution legally empowered to do so.’
Despite this, the PRD pointed out, the UNAM rectory has pronounced itself without the power to withdraw, cancel or revoke the academic title that it granted to Esquivel Mossa in 1987, but has turned the matter over to the General Directorate of Professions of the SEP to proceed about it.
In addition to this, the minister has resorted to even more despicable practices, such as the falsification of evidence and falsification of testimonies, when she tried to deny the accusations of plagiarism and remain in office, when she sought to preside over the Supreme Court at the beginning of the month, accused the PRD.
“From the PRD we also condemn the factious use of State institutions to protect the plagiarizing minister and cover up her crime,” the party said.
He disapproved that innocent people have been blamed, as the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office did, “of Claudia Sheinbaum”, when acting against Edgar Ulises Baez, the student victim of plagiarism.
The PRD also criticized the attitude of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador against the writer and researcher Guillermo Sheridan, for denouncing plagiarism and “daring” to publicly accuse the minister, or for the statements against UNAM for having determined the existence of plagiarism. .
“Where was the so-called 4T not lying, not stealing and not betraying?” questioned the Party of the Democratic Revolution.
