Prague
Prague offers visitors a rare highlight: the city has taken its crown jewels out of the treasury. If you want to admire them, you have until Tuesday to do so.

Because of the enormous number of visitors, the crown jewels of the former Kingdom of Bohemia can be seen in Prague’s St. Vitus Cathedral three days longer than planned. People sometimes waited several hours to see the Wenceslas crown from the 14th century as well as the scepter and orb in the original. The exhibition is now to be finally closed next Tuesday (January 24).

The daily number of visitors is estimated at more than 4000. On Thursday, access to the line of people waiting had to be closed in the afternoon because those coming later would not have had a chance to get in until the closing time. The treasure is only rarely brought out – most recently in 2018. This time the official occasion is the founding of the Czech Republic 30 years ago with the division of Czechoslovakia into two states.

Police officers and soldiers from the castle guard ensure security. Admission is free. The exhibition takes place shortly before the run-off election for the Czech presidency. Former NATO general Petr Pavel will meet ex-Prime Minister Andrej Babis on January 27th and 28th. (dpa)
