Primary elections begin in New York

This Tuesday the primary elections are being held in our state.

This is the last day for voters in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens to go to the polls to cast their ballots in the June primary elections.

In the city there are a total of three congressional primaries and several Senate and State Assembly primaries.

Some judicial elections are also held, as well as to become Democratic district leader or delegate to the party’s judicial convention.

Aside from a Republican primary for the state Assembly in Queens, all other primaries are Democratic. There are no primaries for Staten Island voters.

Queens had the highest number of early votes with 14,280, followed by Brooklyn with 13,424, Manhattan with 12,092 and the Bronx with 6,445, according to the Board of Elections. There are no primary elections on Staten Island.

More than 46,000 New Yorkers voted during the early voting period, which ended Sunday.

There will be races in every county except Staten Island.

In these elections, candidates from each party will be chosen for the general elections in November.

During the week of early voting, a total of 46,241 New Yorkers cast their ballots.

Polls are open throughout the city until 9 p.m.
