Diana’s youngest son made this revelation in an interview which will be broadcast this Sunday on the British channel ITV.

New revelation from Harry. The prince tells in an interview broadcast this Sunday on the British channel ITV that he only mourned the death of his mother Diana once. Confiding his “shame”, he explains that he was unable to show the slightest emotion in public during the funeral.

“I cried once, at the funeral, and I recount this in detail in The Alternate“, he explains. “I tell how strange it was and how ashamed I was. And I think William felt the same when we were walking past Kensington Palace. [parmi les badauds en pleurs].”

“There were 50,000 bouquets of flowers for our mother,” he continues. “And we were there shaking hands, smiling…And their hands were wet. We couldn’t understand why their hands were wet. It was all the tears that had fallen from their eyes and they had wiped away [avec leurs mains].”

“A decade of unremitting pain”

And the prince added: “Everyone thought they knew our mother. And the two people dearest to her heart, the two people she loved the most in the world could not show the slightest emotion at this moment.”

Among the many revelations of Substitute, Harry recounts how his father told him of Diana’s death. He also explains that he asked, years later, a driver to take the Alma tunnel in Paris, where Diana died, to put an end to a “decade of incessant pain.”

The output of Substitute is scheduled for Tuesday. In excerpts already broadcast, the prince also reiterates his desire for “reconciliation” with his family and says he hopes to “reconnect” with his father Charles and his brother William, heir to the throne, on condition of “establishing responsibilities” on the past, in particular his departure with his wife Meghan Markle for California in 2020.
