After severe restrictions due to the corona pandemic, private gardens will be reopened to visitors in Berlin and Brandenburg this year. By September, 120 private individuals will be showing their personal flower paradises for garden lovers to stroll around and talk shop, as a spokeswoman for the “Open Gardens Berlin-Brandenburg” initiative reported on Saturday. This rainy weekend started with 12 gardens in Potsdam and the surrounding area.

In Biesenthal (Barnim), for example, a garden with a forest character opened: a garden of more than 1000 square meters with old trees right next to the city park. In the Russian Colony in Potsdam, a cottage garden with herbs, vegetables and old types of fruit was shown in a historical setting designed by garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné (1789-1866) around the historical residential building.

And at the Sanssouci Palace Park, hundreds of early bloomers could be seen in a 1,500 square meter collector’s garden. The collection is supplemented by 300 potted and tub plants. (dpa)
