With the M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO, OM Digital Solutions Corporation presents the manufacturer’s highest-magnification lens to date. The telephoto lens (equivalent to 180 millimeters in 35 mm) offers an image scale of 2:1 at the close-up limit of 23 centimetres. An integrated image stabilizer should ensure that you can also take handheld shots with this long focal length. In combination with a compatible camera body including its own image stabilizer, exposures that are up to seven f-stops longer should be possible without blurring.

Despite the long focal length of 180 millimeters equivalent to a 35mm film, the lens is comparatively compact and light.

So that the weather doesn’t thwart the photographer’s plans on the planned tour, the lens housing is extensively sealed against the ingress of dust and splash water (IP53), and according to the manufacturer the construction is frost-proof down to -10 °Celsius.

The light intensity is not particularly high with an aperture of f/3.5, but allows for a comparatively compact construction. The lens, which is almost 14 centimeters long, has a diameter of seven centimeters and weighs 453 grams, the filter diameter is 62 millimeters.

The optical structure of 18 lenses in 13 groups is intended to ensure high imaging performance – including eight special lenses that reduce chromatic aberrations. According to the manufacturer, coating the lenses minimizes reflections and thus suppresses ghost images or lens flares when there is backlight. The aperture should offer a circular opening with seven slats and thus a pleasing blur.

Numerous special lenses are designed to minimize image errors on the M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO. The optical structure consists of 18 lenses in 13 groups.

According to OM Digital Solutions, the autofocus reliably focuses up to the macro range. For this purpose, two focus motors move two lens groups independently of each other. A function button that can be assigned via the camera and a focus limiter round off the features of the tele macro. Optionally, the lens can also be operated on the 2x teleconverter MC-20. This doubles both the reproduction scale to 4:1 and the maximum open aperture (then f/7.1).

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO will be available from the end of February for 1500 euros.
