The national government confirmed this afternoon that the beneficiaries of the Progresar Scholarships will have a 22% increase in their December salaries, which will be paid next week.
With this update, the amount will go from $7,400 to $9,000. In addition, a new increase is expected in March 2023 for the start of the school year for secondary, tertiary, and university students.
The announcement was made by the Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, and his Education Minister, Jaime Perczyk. The measure is aimed at “promoting education.”
“We were working with the minister (Sergio Massa) on a process to improve and update the Progresar Scholarships, which we have been developing throughout 2022 and starting in 2023. The scholarships are a program that has the highest investment,” Perczyk said.
According to the Minister of Education, in 2022 the Progresar Scholarship program closed the year with an investment of $120,000 million and reached almost 1,700,000 beneficiaries.
“The December scholarship will have an update of 22% that we will pay in the coming days so that the children can go to school, they can go to the university, they can study nursing, do professional training and they can do what we want to defend that the right that the boys have to go to education and have a better one”, maintained the holder of the portfolio.
An investment of $150,000 million was projected for 2023 and an update in March. Massa stressed that “the best investment a country can make is in Education.”
“This 22% increase in Progresar Scholarships represents not only an improvement in almost 1,700,000 boys and girls across the country, but also represents an increase in investment by the national State of $150,000 million throughout throughout the year”, affirmed the Minister of Economy.
And he announced that they aspire to “update” the value of the scholarship in March “understanding that when the school year begins, the expenses for transportation, books, teaching materials, connectivity, which today is so important for the children, somehow way it has to receive update”.
Since the ministry has not yet confirmed the payment calendar dates, it is expected that it will be reported in the coming days through official channels.
