The Berlin tax offices are still missing around 90,000 declarations from owners on the property tax reform. This emerges from the response of the financial administration to a request from the Left Group. According to this, only 761,000 of the approximately 850,000 expected declarations had been made by April 15th.

By this date, the tax authorities had sent out 302,675 property tax assessments, against which 44,671 objections were lodged. Of these, 40,127 are still in progress.

In addition, eight lawsuits against the reform are pending at the Berlin-Brandenburg Finance Court. The plaintiffs question whether the reform is constitutional. The main focus here is on the method used to determine the value, which incorporates various parameters.

There could also be trouble later because the Berlin standard land values were at a record high on the January 1, 2022 valuation date. According to the administration, these remain relevant even if the reference values fall, until the next valuation of all properties on January 1, 1929.
