The prophecy has carried out a laboratory analysis in which different sports drinks and oral serums were examined, and it was found that some products engage in deception that can be harmful to consumers.

In the edition of the Consumer MagazineProfeco will publish the complete results of the study, but it has already been anticipated that some brands will leave the market due to the irregularities detected.

In total, 21 products were evaluated, including 8 sports drinks, 8 oral serums, and 5 hydration drinks. Profeco detected that some products exceed sodium content indicated on the label and others exceed the permitted sweeteners.

It was pointed out that the markings are misleading

Irregularities were found in the labeling and advertising of some products, which could confuse consumers. Among the products that do not comply with the labeling and advertising regulations, there are:

  • BioSteel Sport Drink
  • Jumex Sports
  • sports drink
  • Rescue and Serox

In particular, Suerox, which is sold as an oral electrolyte drink, contains a lot of sodium in its composition and is not a true oral serum, even though it is used to treat cases of dehydration from stomach infections and other problems.

Profeco also highlighted that Suerox does not offer what it promises, so it will be requested to change its name to “serum”.

Sports drinks and oral serums are products commonly used to hydrate the body during and after intense physical activity, as well as to treat dehydration caused by gastrointestinal diseases.

However, it is important that consumers choose products that comply with labeling and advertising regulations, and that do not contain harmful or misleading ingredients.
